MySQL is relational database management system. It is the world most popular and powerful open source database. MySQL was founded by a Swedish company MySQL AB and developed by David Axmark, Allan Larsson, and Michael “Monty” Widenius. MySQL was named after Monty's daughter, My and Dolphin logo is “Sakila”, the name of a town in Arusha, Tanzania.

It also become the database of choice for a new generation of applications built on the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP / Perl / Python.)

It is a multi-user, multithreaded database management system. MySQL database is existing on most important OS platforms, Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook use MySQL.

In 2008 MySQL AB acquired by Sun Microsystems. In 2010, Oracle corporation became the owner of the MySQL database by acquiring Sun Microsystems.
